Its almost father's day. And I've recently discovered this gem of a book that I reckon would make a great gift for those top Pops out there. It comprises of 200 intricately hand-drawn illustrated pages of Irish traditions, crafts, history, countryside, farming ways, wildlife, myths and customs - all the work of one man - Johnny McKeagney, a grocery store owner who for 40 years documented his unique view of the world and characters he encountered in his native Fermanagh and its surroundings before he passed away. It really is a fascinating visual feast, and you could easily spend hours pouring over his incredibly detailed study drawings and notes of Irish Life and folklore. A priceless insightful reminder of life how it was in a by- gone era. Dads will love it. |
