Tis the season to light those candles

For us mere mortals who do not own a period house, this charming collection of scented candles will help
transport one back to that utterly exquisite era this festive season! Developed by Irish Interior Designers Joseph Ensko and Helen Rodenis, they are inspired by the history of the Irish Country House. Each scent is designed to evoke a particular room in the house and each beautifully designed box captures the story of how the room was used. Perfect pressie for a Downton Abbey fan me thinks! Available here.

Every Fragrance Tells A Story

I discovered Galway's Cloon Keen Atelier, about a month ago when I got a whiff of their Limoncello candle, yep that's right 'Limoncello', with notes of Sorrento lemon peel, white flowers and vodka no less! Well the master fragrance artisans are about to celebrate their 10th Anniversary this month and filmmaker Kamil Krawczak has created a gorgeous series of little films which explore the lives of the craftsmen behind the brand (which includes a range of candles, perfume and body lotions all encased in lush simplistic designer packaging that are an art in themselves. )

The first short posted above -  'Every Fragrance Tells A Story' introduces Mary Mundy, Cloon Keen Atelier's Perfume Technician. She's an artist's muse, a Morris Minor lover and makes great scones apparently!..Check out that car.

Ah, the smell of French Linen.

Not sure if I actually own any but I'll take Max Benjamin's word for it. It's gorgeous French Linen Water Diffuser made my sister's living room smell like a Provencal laundrette, pretty impressive in my book.(sorry sis!)

Max Benjamin started off as a candle company, run by two brothers Mark and David Van den Bergh, in EnnisKerry, Co. Wicklow. (Max and Ben are their 10yr old nephews, cute!) They do beautifully packaged soy candles (€28) with wonderful sounding fragrances (cassis & white jasmine, mimosa & sweet amber, grapefruit & pomelo, they even have this masculine number for a man treat) and a range of aromatic room diffusers (€35) that come in their own elegant vases. And if you can't decide on a fragrance, you can always start with their signature mini candle gift set.
