Made by Node

I've long been a fan of Irish Illustrator Chris Haughton's work, if you are not familiar you must check out his award winning children's picture book  ' A bit lost' which is up there with the cutest books of all time. Chris has long been a supporter and designer for fair trade company People Tree and an ongoing project of his has been Node, which sees designers like him working with Nepalese carpet makers to create these beautiful handmade rugs hand spun from Tibetan wool with all proceeds going to schools and orphanages in Nepal. You can follow and purchase their work here.

Rex - the stool that rocks

If only he came with that cute sad dog and cosy fire, (eh hello summer where are you?) but none the less Rex stool is one rocking piece of furniture. The ideal desk companion to rock away rainey days like today and is even good for posture apparently.

It's been designed by Jens Kosak exclusively for Red Dog The Store, who is also the creative mastermind behind this guy Rocking chairs are so last season really.

In the Ould Ago

Its almost father's day. And I've recently discovered this gem of a book that I reckon would make a great gift for those top Pops out there. It comprises of  200 intricately hand-drawn illustrated pages of Irish traditions, crafts, history, countryside, farming ways, wildlife, myths and customs - all the work of one man - Johnny McKeagney, a grocery store owner who for 40 years documented his unique view of the world and characters he encountered in his native Fermanagh and its surroundings before he passed away. It really is a fascinating visual feast, and you could easily spend hours pouring over his incredibly detailed study drawings and notes of Irish Life and folklore. A priceless insightful reminder of life how it was in a by- gone era. Dads will love it.
